ACLIMA : Woolnet Original Crewneck

ACLIMA

Woolnet Original Crewneck

Intended use:

WoolNet Original Crewneck is designed for active outdoor enthusiasts who need effective temperature regulation during demanding activities and changing conditions.

The garment is suitable for hiking, ski touring, hunting, mountaineering, expeditions and other endurance activities. Its long-sleeved design makes it suitable as a technical base layer in a versatile layering system throughout the year.

The open mesh construction promotes ventilation and transports moisture away from the body during activity. The structure also helps retain insulating air, supporting warmth when activity levels decrease. This combination provides a functional balance between ventilation, moisture transport and insulation without unnecessary bulk.

Product USP:

Aclima pioneered the commercial development of wool mesh base layers, combining merino wool with an open mesh construction to support ventilation, moisture transport and insulation.

The product’s construction is adapted to the demands of outdoor use. Rib-knitted shoulders provide comfort when carrying a backpack, while rib-knitted side panels support a comfortable fit. Every detail is designed with practical use in mind. Rib-knitted side panels support a comfortable fit, while the drop-tail hem provides extra coverage. Flat seams help reduce friction against the skin. An additional wool layer at the elbows enhances durability and comfort in an area exposed to wear. Rib-knitted shoulders are designed to provide comfort when carrying a backpack.

Fun facts:

WoolNet is used by military personnel in Norway, Sweden, Finland and Denmark. Before Aclima was awarded the Nordic Combat Uniform (NCU) contract, the garment was tested by 100 soldiers in each of the four countries over a four-year period. The Nature colour is another considered design choice. Its natural off-white appearance is less visible beneath light-coloured mid-layers than black.

Approach to extend the product lifecycle:

WoolNet is designed for demanding outdoor use. Aclima encourages customers to extend the useful life of their garments through repair and maintenance rather than replacing them unnecessarily.

Aclima offers a repair service (Norway) and provides instructional videos on its website to help customers repair their garments themselves. By offering both professional repair and practical self-repair guidance, Aclima helps customers keep their garments in use for longer and make better use of the resources invested in each product. Customers are encouraged to repair the garment whenever possible, follow the recommended care instructions and continue using it for as long as it remains functional.
