Statement from the jury:
The standard way to create odor free fabrics is to apply silver particles that reduce the amount of bacteria that start to smell. Learning from trees, the Finnish brand NordShield developed a new technology: BioLayr. Coating each fiber with the biocide-free BioLayr, bacteria cannot even be built up within the fabric – which works great: During testing jury members wore shirts for a few days in a row without getting smelly. This new technology has already also been used in apparel made for the health business to reduce the amount of viruses and bacteria in hospitals etc. This could be a game-changer, not only for outdoor apparel.

Nordshield Bio Layr is officially recognized as the world's first non-biocidal antimicrobial and anti-odor technology. A biocide-free technology that breaths sustainable longevity and cleanliness into your textiles.

Primary innovation features: 

The biocide-free NordShield BioLayr® formulation creates an ultrathin coating on the surface of fibers that physically denies microorganisms and viruses when applied to textiles from water-based solutions. The technology provides an unique dual function:

• Physical Antimicrobial: Reduces both fabric deterioration and bacterial odor formation
• Odor Capture: Eliminates bad odors NordShield BioLayr® sets a new standard with a seamless, self-cleaning barrier that blocks microbes, captures odors, and keeps textiles hygienic, free from biocidal chemicals.

It utilizes the power of wood extractives, nature’s ancient power for protection. The unique innovation of plant-based surface technology is based on the anchoring and orientation of resin acids on the surface of the fibers.
