MOTIVATION FROM THE JURY

»Once you put them on, you forget you are wearing them. Is there a bigger compliment for garments«, one tester raves about the women’s merino underwear Tusna Sport Air from the Norwegian brand Devold. The key to the outstanding performance is the mix of different merino fabrics. Devold combines merino-mesh and classical knitted underwear fabrics with a new 3D rib material that allows moisture evaporate quickly. This improves comfort because the air pockets in the 3D construction regulate the body heat better than conventional merino fabrics and shorten the drying time. Depending on whether the rips are facing towards the body (more insulation) or are on the outside (less insulation) you can adapt the underwear to the amount of warmth needed. Due to the high stretch of the garment and the perfect patterning, the fit is great and makes you look even better. An outstanding product for all kind of activities and for every temperature excluding warm summer days.

PRIMARY INNOVATION FEATURES

Made from 99% renewable and biodegradable fibers. Naturally anti-bacterial fibers make it possible to reduce number of washings.

SUSTAINABILITY INFORMATION

Varg chooses materials that are of high quality and as environmentally friendly as possible. Many of their products are made of recycled fibres such as recycled polyester and recycled wool. The padding in the pants are in renewably-sourced biopolymers/recycled polyester. PFOS and PFOA free.

These trousers are unique because of their 3-4 season usability and the combination of their traditional Sarka wool. They have a technical design and functional details.

INTENDED SPECIFIC END USE

The Kaarna Trousers are designed for a multipurpose year-around outdoor use. They can both be used individually as an outer layer and also as an inner mid-layer under shell pants in extreme cold conditions. This makes the trousers very versatile and a good option for demanding hiking, expeditions or working outdoors.

SPECIFIC FEATURES

The key-feature of this trouser is the performance of the durable Sarka wool. They are highly breathable and durable. Not fully windproof but they will still protect you against the cold and when windy outside. The trousers have strategically placed stretch-panels for improved movement. Reinforcements on the knees and leg-ends for extra protection and durability.

SUSTAINABILITY INFORMATION

One trouser for multiple use for 3–4seasons - reducing need for multiple trousers. The 70% re-cycled wool in the trousers are from Prato Green District in Italy and since wool needs less washing you will save water. The reinforcements are in recycled polyester and organic cotton.

The Devold Running Jacket has an extended back panel with venting. The tailored and articulated fit is optimized to give you freedom of movement. The fitted hood and collar protects against wind. The jacket has a chest pocket and two front pockets with zipper. Reflective details make you visible in the dark. Made from renewable and biodegradable fibers. PRIMARY INNOVATION FEATURES

FlexWool anorak and pants are super stretchy and very comfortable to wear. This is a hybrid anorak and pants with windstopper and stretch panels. Aclima chose merino wool with elasticity to give you the best fit and mobility. They have combined the materials to protect exposed areas from wind and rough weather.

INTENDED SPECIFIC END USE

The idea was to create a product that makes it easier to enjoy the outdoors. Outer wear with a high percentage of wool since it will make you stay warm even if wet. As well as the perfect fit, the technical features like ventilation in mesh construction and wind protection was important.

SPECIFIC FEATURES

A brand new and innovative product. FlexWool is made out of wool with stretch panels and panels for wind protection.

SUSTAINABILITY INFORMATION

Aclima is trying to optimize the wool usage because of its benefits when weather changes and since it’s biodegradable. Aclima is currently working on a plan to collect garments in shops or having garments sent back to them. They will re-use the materials as fillings in punching balls!

SUSTAINABILITY INFORMATION

Only uses non-mulesing merino wool. Through the website Ulvang encourage repairs and reuse and that all textiles delivered are good for recycling.

MOTIVATION FROM THE JURY

If you are looking for the ideal pant for hiking, backpacking or skiing, the Rabot 365 Hybrid from the Norwegian label Bergans will serve you well. It protected the jury members from heavy snowfall and cold gusts, but also kept them very comfortable when the activity level raised. Bum and knees are built out of a waterproof, breathable fabric that is lined with merino wool combining weather protection and next to skin comfort. For the rest of the product Bergans uses strong texturized recycled nylon. All fabrics are certified by the strong bluesign standard.
